…why meditations…

meditation: a discourse intended to express its author’s reflections or to guide others in contemplation.

Sometimes a style of writing takes on a life all its own. When I first began blogging, it was as a member of an acting troupe on tour, and I was serving as the historian of the troupe, recording the tour as it went along. When I finished the tour, I thought it might be interesting and perhaps noble to continue blogging about theatre, seeing the opportunity as one where I could get my opinions into the conversation and out into the network of theatrical blogs which were rapidly coming onto the scene.

At this point, though, I think I have finally settled on making this blog what my little catchphrase says: I create meditations on the art of theatre. By nature I am an introspective person, and not much given to engaging in scathing political or intellectual discourse designed to prove a point or call people to action. My main philosophical viewpoint these days is that of entropy, or perhaps I’m merely a curmudgeon.

At any rate, my only reason for this blog is simply to express my thoughts on a life in the theatre in the form of meditations. I float them out into the blogosphere with no particular purpose or agenda in mind; I do it simply because it helps me clarify my thoughts, and because, well, I’m able to do so. Should they float your way and you find them useful, then that’s fine. If you disagree with them, that’s fine. After all, this is merely a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing. -twl
