From the NAST Conference
Los Angeles CA – I am attending the National Association of Schools of Theatre conference in LA this week, and interestingly enough, some very unusual ideas are being expressed. I did not expect to hear in this conference some of the things I’ve heard, and while right at this moment I think I don’t have time to write all I could write, I wanted to get a short post out just to mention I am a bit surprised at what I am hearing. Of course, the difference between what I am hearing and what the various institutions are doing in the field is a different story, and I assume I will have something to say about that in future posts. So consider this a teaser. I might even begin to sent out a few tweets on stuff.
Quick case in point – one of the speakers at a session was Michael Garcés, the new AD of Cornerstone Theatre in LA. Jose Luis Valenzuela also spoke (many hats, but essentially a Mexican playwright), and Randy Reinholz, AD of Native Voices in LA as well. More to come. -twl
